Do You Practice What You Preach?

Do you practice what you preach?

Recently I got very serious when I asked myself this question.  You see, I’ve been in the speaking and training industry for the past 12 years and over that span I’ve seen a lot of people that are preaching things all day long that aren’t necessarily walking the talk.

I don’t mean everyone by any means, but I have seen a common thread of it in my time.  That being said, I took a good hard look at myself in the past few months and have asked myself that very question.  Do I practice what I preach?  And honestly, the answer was no.

Then I decided to make some changes.  I think sometimes we teach the things we need the most.  As a life coach and yoga instructor I often find myself telling clients exactly what I need to hear and I take it as a great reminder to continue doing the things that I know when I do them I achieve great results.

So, when I created Daily Reset Break, I realized that I need it possibly more than anyone else. Therefore, my New Year’s Resolution was to do all of my Daily Reset Break videos.  And, I am excited to say that I have!  I can’t say that I have done them on a daily basis and have to be honest and share that some days I’ve had to catch up on a few, but I am doing them and that’s all that matters to me right now.

And you know what!?!?!?!?  I had a fun moment today when I realized that they are working 🙂 But, truly that not only am I participating through the videos, but the ultimate goal of me wanting these videos to have people think about taking breaks at other times throughout the day really work.  I was in the car and sitting a lot today and found myself outside the car today when I had a chance jumping around in place a little and stretching.

Sitting all day truly is killing us and our bodies and I was reminded of this while teaching yoga this week for a corporate meeting when some of the participants were saying how much they needed yoga and stretching after sitting all day.  They were exhausted and their bodies were stiff and achy.

What do you do to reset when you need a break?  Need some help?  www.dailyresetbreak.com

What do you preach?  Do you practice what you preach?  Do you want to practice what you preach or do you possibly want to start preaching a new message?  If you like it, what can you do more of to start practicing what you preach?

Do You Allow Yourself To Trust Others?

Do you allow yourself to trust others?

A lot of times when I’m working with coaching clients, I realize how hard it is for people to trust others.

I had an interesting experience with trust last week at an acro yoga class.  Not only was it quite possibly the most challenging thing that I have ever done that left me sore for about four days, it also allowed me to push myself to my limits and play with trust and communication like never before.

When you are relying on someone to literally keep you from falling, things can get a bit scary. Trust is so important and communication is key.

Your partner has ways of communicating through squeezing your hand as one example to let you know what side they will start on (if necessary) or to verbally cue you.  You also have to trust and communicate with the person spotting you to make sure they know where you are headed and are prepared to be there to support you.

I remember doing all kinds of balancing things like “airplane” as a kid and it being really easy.  As an adult, I found it not quite as easy, but I still had a blast!

Relationships are kind of the same way.  They can be challenging and when it comes to falling for someone in an intimate relationship, things can get scary and trust becomes so important & communication is key.

Do you know the difference of listening to your gut in whether or not you can trust another person or not or whether fear is getting in the way?  I’ve become more clear on those feelings the past year or so after getting them confused in the past.  If you find yourself in a situation where you know that you can trust another person and would like to further your relationship with them, are you willing to put yourself in that scary and vulnerable position?

I think trusting and opening yourself up for an intimate and close relationship can be one of the most beautiful things we can experience.  And as long as both people commit to making communication a priority along the way, I believe that you can always get through anything even if two people end up not always wanting the same thing.

What would it take for you to trust someone enough to let them in 100%?  Would you be willing to make communication the top priority in your most important relationships and commit to finding ways to always make things work together for both people in partnership?  You just might be surprised at how much freedom and joy you could have in your relationships!

Be The Change You Hope To See In The World

Do you know the change you hope to see in the world?

I got a t-shirt for Christmas from a girlfriend with this picture on it and it really had me ponder the saying.

And I’m inspired by a friend who is getting ready to move across country to finish out one of the biggest projects of his life that in my opinion has to do with him being the change he hopes to see in the world.

So, I’ve been asking myself…  What is the change I hope to see in the world and am I BEING that change?

This could be anything.  And you could take it to whatever extreme that you feel works for you, but do you know what change you want in the world?  If you were to take a stand for one cause or one thing happening in the world, what would it be?

Perhaps it’s just something as simple as you believe in being more green and recycling is what you are most passionate about and you always recycle and maybe even encourage others to do so and you are happy with that!

Or, it could be something that seems bigger than you like my friends project where you have no idea how it will happen or how you will get it done and it could be the scariest thing in the world, but you do it anyway.

I believe mine currently falls somewhere in the middle.

I want to help people live their lives to their fullest potential.  To stop sabotaging themselves in any way and know that they can fulfill their dreams and find true joy in their lives.  That can mean so many different things for each individual.

So, am I BEING that change?  That has been a question I’ve been asking myself a lot lately.  And today, I have to say that the answer is yes.  Not in a braggy sort of a way because I know it is not something that I do perfectly, but I am trying and putting forth a lot of effort to be that change.

Are there things that need improvement?  Yes.  Are there times when fear and insecurities get in the way?  Absolutely.  Do I keep trying anyway?  Always.

I was brilliant at sabotaging myself and my potential for most of my life and I made a commitment to put an end to that a few years ago.

Is it scary sometimes when I step out and do things I am nervous about?  For sure.  Is it fun when I do it anyway?  SO MUCH FUN!  Do I learn along the way?  Constantly.

Am I open to my change growing so much somehow that I get out of the “somewhere in the middle” and it becomes that scariest thing I’ve ever done?  Bring it on.

Here’s hoping that you take some time to think about what your change is that you hope to see in the world and be honest with yourself about how much you are being that change.  See if there’s anything you can commit to in order to be that change a little more.  Maybe you decide to move across the country and be it a lot more.  Either way, I think you will find more peace and joy if you put some thought and effort into it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all and I hope you enjoyed your holiday season. I certainly did! I chose to take some time off and missed a bi-weekly blog in there, sorry about that if anyone noticed and missed it, but I’m back 🙂

How Are You Recovering From Halloween?

candy

How are you recovering from Halloween?  What do you think of when you think of Halloween?  What are your favorite things to do?

With Halloween being one of my favorite holidays since I love getting dressed up and having fun, I’ve never really thought about some of the things that Halloween represents.

I mean, where did trick or treat come from anyway?  Like, do people ever actually do a trick for a child vs. giving them candy?  What does that even mean?

It’s kind of ironic for me that it is one of my favorite holidays since I like to think of myself more of wanting to spread joy and fulfillment vs. darkness and gloominess with all the scariness that takes place.

So, if you’re left with a big ole bunch of candy, now what do you do?

What can you do to take care of your body and/or your children so we don’t all get sick from eating too much sugar?

One thing I’m incorporating lately is buying fruit to have on hand for when I have a chocolate craving.  Just last week alone to prepare, I bought apples to eat with peanut butter, plums, peaches, oranges and bananas.  Guess I thought I was going to have a lot of sugar cravings!

Just one idea to possibly incorporate when you’re pushing your edge with any leftovers.  Perhaps stick with the Halloween theme over the next week and pick up an orange when you want to go for the candy.  Your body may love you for it!

You could also consider adding in some extra movement this week.  Maybe pick up an extra yoga class, run or work out for the week.  Or if you haven’t been getting any workouts at all in lately, just commit to one.  Going on a walk outdoors is one of the best things you can do for your mind, body and soul!  Plus, if you’re in Texas like I am, it’s feeling great outside, so get out there and enjoy it!

HAPPY BELATED HALLOWEEN!!!!

P.S. I meant to send this on Friday and that didn’t happen, so I had to redo this to make sense post Halloween.  My apologies for being late!

P.S.S. I might have just finished eating a bite size Snickers and M&M pack.

P.S.S.S.  Therefore, it’s all about moderation so you don’t make yourself sick or send your body into sugar shock.  Or, go out there and find friends and other people to pass the candy along to and maybe you can put a smile on someone else’s face and do something healthier for yourself 😉

Can You Use Mind Over Matter In Tough Or Scary Times?

photo-2

A couple of weeks ago I did something that I knew would scare me and I had to use mind over matter to get through it.  Which reminds me, I was preparing for this “something” and chose to skip my bi-weekly blog, so my sincere apologies if you happened to notice.

I taught a 9 hour workshop on “Fulfilling Relationships” and knew that I would be up in front of the room in front of some people I had just met that morning speaking for an entire day.  That wasn’t what scared me the most though.

I had a few people I did know attending, two of which I knew I wanted to give some feedback to and one that I planned on doing some heavy duty work with and I knew that it would benefit that person greatly, but it made me quite nervous.

As a result of my nerves being turned up to high, I began getting a migraine (which is extremely rare for me) and my feet were killing me from walking around in heels.  I had to just mind over matter it because I knew in the end, if I did, I would be so grateful for the opportunity, learn a ton from it and that it would be easier next time.  The cool thing is I do want there to be a next time.

At the same time I was doing my workshop, my boyfriend was riding a 100 mile bike race in about 100 degree weather.  He has done quite a few of those in his life, but he too was having to use “mind over matter” during his ride and talked about the ways he had to talk himself out of stopping and how he was able to keep going through mind over matter despite any cramping or thinking he was going to have to quit at times.

Would you be willing to take on a challenge and come up with something that scares you or would push you to your edge and see if you could do it anyway?

I can’t say that I would ever be able to do a 100 mile bike ride, unless that was a huge goal of mine and I believe I could find a way to make it happen.  I do know though that I was able to get through something that I was afraid of doing by pushing through it knowing that the people in that room came to learn something and I wanted them to get what they came for and I sure hope that they did.

Once it was over and I got plenty of rest, I was able to reflect and celebrate the joy of doing something that scared me.  And you know what?  I didn’t die.  I didn’t fall.  I didn’t stop.  I didn’t not know what I was doing, which has been a reoccurring fear of mine in the past.  And I didn’t have anyone walk out of the course (always a bonus ;)).  And most importantly, my two friends are still talking to me and I’m pretty sure still love me 😉

I did however realize I had way too much content and the course needed to be two days long!  So, what do you do?  You send material via email to the participants afterwards and note to self for next time to extend the time frame or to make it into two different courses. Had I not just done the course without having it all perfectly figured out, I may have never done the course.  And now I have the confidence to do another one.

Wishing you opportunities to learn and grow and the possibility of needing to use mind over matter to get yourself through a tough or scary time in your life in order to live your life to your fullest potential.

Until next time…

Going To The Chapel, And They Got Married…

photo-2

Congratulations to Ryan and Lindsay!   I had a great time last weekend in Ohio getting to teach yoga the morning of their wedding.

It was a great way to have the groom get into a relaxed state of mind for the fun-filled day ahead of him and he really enjoyed it!

TRIESSENCE is now offering “Reset Breaks” that consist of breathing, stretching and/or yoga breaks at corporate meetings and other events.

More information can be found on the following link:

https://findyourtriessence.com/physical/

“Reset Breaks” are a great way to break up the monotony of meetings and help the attendees be able to retain all of the information as well as have everyone be more creative and productive.

I had the privilege of doing a “reset break” for the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs recently where I got to help the people that take care of so many others as occupational therapists and physical therapists learn how to take care of themselves, while they are doing such amazing work in the world.  It was a true honor to do some stretching and breathing exercises with them outdoors in a beautiful setting in Dallas.

I would love to come do a break at your next meeting or event or even at your wedding to help get your prepared for your BIG DAY 🙂 Hope to hear from you soon!

Happy 1st Birthday, TRIESSENCE! Highlights From The Year…

Christa

TRIESSENCE is proud to announce it just celebrated birthday number 1!

TRIESSENCE exists to help people find the perfect balance of their true essence bringing them to the fullest expression of who they are, which can result in an increase in happiness, fulfilling relationships, health, success, love and joy.  TRIESSENCE wants to help as many people as possible live their lives to their fullest potential and embrace their greatness.

A lot of great things have happened in the last 365 days and TRIESSENCE has remained true to the mission above over the course of the year. Here are a few of the highlights:

1. One year ago, TRIESSENCE launched the first public yoga class and has enjoyed getting to teach and watch students grow and see their bodies transform as they are able to do more with each session.
2. TRIESSENCE has worked with coaching clients from anything to helping find their paths in order to live out their dreams to currently working with one on launching a new business and speaking skills to helping another with the challenges one faces in romantic relationships. TRIESSENCE even helped one coaching client complete a film project this year, which took founder Tessa Todd to London for a week back in April.
3. TRIESSENCE has done private yoga sessions and had a lot of progress with one particular client who has been doing privates since January and taking public classes with Tessa for a year now. She has a rod in her spine due to scoliosis and was concerned she wouldn’t be able to do much when they first started. TRIESSENCE is proud to say she is now doing headstands in the middle of the room, by herself. Rod and all!  TRIESSENCE is thrilled to be able to see individuals gain confidence and be able to accomplish things they never thought possible!
4. TRIESSENCE has taught corporate yoga anywhere from small home offices to Mockingbird Station and Comerica Bank Tower downtown in Dallas.
5. One year ago, TRIESSENCE’s first corporate yoga retreat was done outside in a park with 5 people (pictured above). The weather was perfect that day and since then, the sky has been the limit! Last week, TRIESSENCE did a corporate yoga event and mediation session with a group of male and female occupational therapists & physical therapists with the Department of Veterans Affairs. It was such an honor for Tessa to be able to help the people that take care of so many others learn ways to take care of themselves since they deserve it so much for all of the hard work they do!

While Tessa is focusing primarily on corporate yoga onsite at companies or at their events, private yoga sessions and life coaching, she does offer one public yoga class a week on Tuesday evenings at 6PM. If you are interested in checking out the class, please email tessa@findyourtriessence.com

Here’s what a few clients have had to say about working with TRIESSENCE:

“Having Tessa come and do classes at our building is such a great amenity to have for our tenants. The convenience of having yoga onsite versus having to go elsewhere for classes is a huge advantage for all of us. I believe it is a big stress reliever for everyone and I leave feeling energized after each class. I highly recommend it for your company or building!”

Elizabeth Costello Chavez – Tenant Services Coordinator, Comerica Bank Tower

“My original motivation for incorporating a Yoga Break at our company-wide retreat was to offer an out-of-the-box team-building activity for our group. Little did I know it would be such a highlight of our retreat! Our team talks about it to this day, and we’ve since incorporated TRIESSENCE Corporate Yoga twice a week at our office.

Tessa was so mindful of the different levels of fitness represented in the group, and effortlessly customized the class to meet each one. In addition to the benefits that each attendee got out of the session, it cleared our minds to be so much more productive for the rest of our meetings. In fact, I find myself (selfishly) wishing the conferences I attend throughout the year offered Yoga Breaks! I definitely recommend it.”

Christa Haberstock – President, see:a·gen·cy

Personal message from Tessa Todd:

None of these things could have happened this year without the love and support from so many of you along the way. Thank you so much for your faithful support and encouragement! Thank you to all of my clients for continuing to show up and have the drive to continue to better themselves.

For any clients that have moved on but are still using some of the techniques we used together, I’d love to hear from you.  And many of you may not have done any yoga or coaching sessions with me, so if there is anything I can do to support you, I’d love to hear from you as well.  I appreciate the support from each and every one of you and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.  Cheers to many more years to come…

Are Your Thoughts Serving You?

buy-denver-image

Are your thoughts serving you?

Do you ever pay attention to the things that you are telling yourself throughout the day? I’ve been thinking so much about this lately because of conversations I’ve had with a few of my yoga students.

It seems that a lot of times we can say the most negative things to ourselves and wonder why we are not happy or don’t always think so highly of ourselves.  I’d like to invite you to pay attention to your thoughts and see where you stand.

For example, some of my students have said that they say things to themselves throughout class such as “I can’t do this” or “this is hard” or “I’m not good at this” and we are surprised at how discouraged we can be at ourselves.

And no, I don’t then tell them to say the opposite of “I can do this” or “this is easy” and “I’m great at this” because we all know that would do nothing.

But, what I have been paying attention to lately and inviting others to do is start whatever project or class or anything you are doing where you know there may be resistance and remind yourself of the reason you are there and why you are doing it in the first place.

So, if it’s to relieve stress, to become more flexible, to ease your mind and relax, etc. you then do your best to catch yourself when you are having those negative self talk moments and then simply just remind yourself of why you are doing it in the first place and give yourself a little slack and feel grateful that you are able to do something great for your body and mind.

If it’s a part of your job and you are telling yourself how much you hate doing what you are doing, think about the end result and what it provides for you or others and remind yourself of that along the way.

I hope you all have a safe and joyous Memorial Day weekend and may you find a way to have some thoughts over the next two weeks that serve you better.
