Why is Accountability so Important?

We can choose to use accountability for a number of things – work out goals, saving money, reaching our sales numbers, you name it.

And, making the decision to actually take advantage of the gift of accountability is the first step. But, most of the time, I’m afraid most people don’t look at accountability as a gift. It can unfortunately be looked upon as another to do item, a burden, a way for us to feel bad about ourselves or “get in trouble” if we don’t do what we say we are going to do.

What are the go to tapes that run through your mind when you don’t reach your goal or do what you say you’re going to do? Does it keep you telling yourself that “I’m never going to be able to do this” or “I’m bad at this” or “I’m a loser” or “I’m a failure” or “I’m not dependable” or Or OR…

STOP! That doesn’t serve you in any way whatsoever!!!

Why is accountability so important? For starters, the most important part of accountability is our mindset around it. If we go in thinking it’s a chore or feel embarrassed or ashamed if we don’t do everything perfectly, we are setting ourselves up to fail.

If we choose to look at accountability as love and support and that our partners are on our team and wanting us to win, it can drastically change things. Then, when goals aren’t met we can take them as debrief moments to simply look at what’s working, what’s not and what we need to do differently to make them happen. Finally, as a result, the real magic happens…we meet our goals and feel terrific about ourselves and live life to the fullest!

Coaches need coaches too and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying having one of my coaches on my team, Janna Stock, as my accountability partner the past few months. It is helping me get through the items on my to do list that I want more than anything right now to procrastinate. Even if it means picking a time to work on a specific task and setting an alarm and putting all else aside to focus on that item. And, most importantly, making sure self care stays on top of the list too!

It’s been incredible to be able to text Janna and say this is what I’m doing and when I’m doing it and I don’t feel like it so I’m telling you and I know I will get it done that way. Typically, that’s not my go to moves. Normally, I’m a say I’m going to do something and do it person. But, I’ll be honest, I’ve needed more to boost my motivation lately. Having a loving and supportive person on my team having my back has been the best solution!

Thank you Georgia Hospital Association and Texas Association of Appraisal Districts for letting me talk accountability, mindfulness and self care with your folks lately. It was also an honor to be a part of the Cosmo Prof World of Texture Virtual Education Summit. The beauty is seeing that it doesn’t matter what you do for a living, we all need to lower stress by caring for ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually. And, holding one another accountable is crucial in making that happen. Especially, with all we’ve had coming our way the past year. The little things may be more challenging to accomplish than usual, but, not when we feel supported by another rooting for us and reminding us that we are not alone.

We’d love to be here to support and love you through your lives in any way we can. Let us know if we can help!

Virtual Stress Relief Training

What a year, good ole 2020! You know what though? We couldn’t be more grateful for a busy end of the year and getting to work with more great companies bringing in some virtual stress relief for their teams.

The really fun part about some of our Q4 events is they immediately started conversations with Tessa Todd Morgan around what we can pick back up in 2021 for more training. These are the teams we love working with because they truly care about their teams livelihood and making sure they achieve more work/life balance in a time where stress relief and mindfulness is needed more than ever.

I’d love to say at midnight tonight things are all going to change and it will be the best year ever. But, we all know we are going to wake up tomorrow and there’s still Covid, we will still be working from home and there will still be deadlines and stress.

It’s up to us to take care of ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually to make sure we are our best selves for the things and people we care about the most.

Special shout out to Bravo! Group Services, SG Companies and Buckingham for trusting us with your wonderful teams.

We wish all of our wonderful clients we’ve had the honor of serving and those of you that we haven’t yet a Happy and Healthy New Year and pray that you make a commitment in 2021 to take good care of you.

Much love,

TRIESSENCE

Tessa Todd Morgan speaking at 2020 Senior Student Affairs Officers Conference in DC

2020 ACCU Annual Meeting
“The Agile SSAO: Adaptively Serving Our Students in Challenging Times”

The ACCU Senior Student Affairs Officers Conference offers a networking space for professionals at Catholic colleges and universities, where colleagues share ideas, resources, and best practices related to the urgent challenges SSAOs are facing. The 2020 conference will also offer an opportunity to refresh and recharge to be able to focus on the mission in our daily work. Join us for discussions on mindfulness for leaders, a mission-centered lens of leadership and leading in challenging times, and the work of student affairs professionals in the future.

Mindfulness for Adaptive Leaders

Because we are servant leaders pulled in many directions, it’s easy for our own self-care to fall to the bottom of our “to do” lists. But our students and staff watch us and often emulate our behaviors. This session is meant to provide SSAOs with the quiet and safe space to reflect on our self-care behaviors and recommit to our own well-being. Leaders know it can be lonely at the top, but we can’t serve others if we don’t take care of ourselves.

Tessa Todd Morgan, founder and CEO of TRIESSENCE, mindfulness expert, personal growth coach, and accredited trainer in Emotional Intelligence is honored to be a part of such a wonderful event to help bring self-care to those who need it most.

After working with and representing speakers and celebrities for 10 years, I started my own company 6 years ago to create experiences that I thought were lacking at meetings and events.

Nature. It does a body good.

I don’t know about where you are, but here in Texas, we have seen nothing but rain for a while now and I’m gettin a little stir crazy. So, this afternoon I decided to give myself a RESET BREAK by looking at these amazing Aspens I captured in CO on Kebler Pass ☀️

The beautiful thing about nature is even just looking at a picture or especially a video (below!) can calm us ? Great for stress relief and a wonderful way to practice mindfulness!

Studies have been done where students who took a walk in nature vs ones that walked in the city before testing scored significantly better and even looking at a photo did the same trick! So, I may not be able to get outside much this weekend (although I hope I can!), but we can still take time to soak in the beauty even from the indoors ?

Happy weekend to all ?

Enjoy!

Own Your Day With Mind – Focus – Me!

How can we use mindfulness to own our day?  MIND – FOCUS – ME

1. MIND – first thing in the morning we need to do something to get our mind right. BEFORE checking email. Before reading texts. Before anything! It could be prayer, meditation, stretching, visualizing, setting an intention for the day, having coffee quietly or even just sitting outside. Something that makes you feel good to get the day going on the right path. Then, when we go to check the emails or texts our mind is already in a good place and can we can react better.

2. FOCUS – we need to determine our non negotiable 1-3 items that absolutely must get done that day and when we will set aside “focus time” that day to get them done. Again, non negotiable. When will you set aside all distractions and only focus on those 1-3 things until they are completed? We can’t spend the entire day without distraction, but we can set aside a couple of hours in our day if we are honest with ourselves and let others know when we are available for interruptions outside of those hours.  That may mean no cell phone or email during that time!  We WILL SURVIVE, I promise!

3. ME – we need to pick something every single day for “me time” to take care of ourselves and increase our TRIESSENCE, which is taking care of ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually. Just one little thing a day in one of those areas is wonderful and if we pick an area we typically don’t tend to focus on it will help us find our own unique perfect balance until our TRIESSENCE grows and that’s when we find the sweet reward of finding more joy, fulfilling relationships, success and love than we ever thought possible. The cool thing is you can mix it up the next day so you won’t get tired of trying to form some new habit because you can be as creative as you want and keep changing it up, but the bonus is in doing that it WILL become a habit! That is, taking care of YOU.

That is being mindful. That is owning your day. That is work/life balance.

MIND. FOCUS. ME.

Would you be willing to give it a go?  If not, what is holding you back?  You are worth it! You deserve it!  Your body, mind, spirit and productivity will thank you for it 🙂

Hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday!  Happy 4th of July!

Practicing patience…

I’ve been practicing patience the last few weeks looking forward to what is to come. I was surprised to find a nest with 15 eggs in a planter box in my backyard a few weeks ago.

Seeing a mother sit patiently waiting for 28 days for her ducklings to arrive is truly inspiring.  Can you imagine mostly sitting still doing nothing for 28 days?

And, it has been a miracle to witness the father flying in for occasional visits and watching the two of them interact with one another.  It’s incredible to see how the mother safely covers the eggs with feathers for protection when she leaves.

In such a fast moving world, it’s nice to slow down and watch tiny miracles unfold.  It seems in a society where we can get distracted in as little as 3 minutes and it can take up to 23 minutes to get back on task, we are sometimes missing the miracles all around us and they almost have to be right in front of our face in order for us to see them.

Every time I make it a point to search out and be present to the things around me, I am presently surprised that there are miracles to witness when I make it a point to notice.  I’m amazed when I get to speak to groups on mindfulness at how much this is needed for all of us these days.  Not to mention how great it is for stress relief when we are actually present.  When we are living in the moment we can’t be living from a place of regret or shame of the past or worry and anxiousness of the future.  What an added bonus!

What miracles have you been present to lately?

Duckling video and photo sharing to come…if you want to see more follow @tessatoddmorgan on Instagram or Facebook.

Friday Meditation Ramble

I had the privilege of coaching a professor today that has a background in Emotional Intelligence as well and we had a nice chuckle over how we all know the things we need to be doing and all of the incredible benefits of doing them, but sometimes we just need that accountability piece to make sure we take good care of ourselves! I needed it a little too much, I think, considering I had a coach for about 6 years back in the day!

When I find myself struggling to do what I know will serve me so well, I like to ask myself two questions: A) What is it going to cost me if I don’t do it? B) How will it serve me if I do? (aka how will it better my health? my life? how will it better me to live at my fullest potential, and to be my best to those around me and better serve others)

Same could go for if you are getting ready to do something you know is not so good for you, but A) What will it cost me if I do? B) How will it serve me if I don’t?

Many years ago, I had worked myself up to meditating 30 mins 2 x a day (I know, I know, wow, those were the days…I think the whites in my eyes were literally radiating light!) and I’ve gone through phases where it’s dropped off to none at all. I’ve been back on the 15 minute bandwagon recently vs. just a few minutes and upped it to 20 mins today. Hopefully, this will be my sweet spot 😉

Sometimes it takes us at least 15 minutes to settle down to get to where we can get to that perfect relaxed state that we only need to be in for a short bit to where our body and mind will remember and the benefits speak for themselves. I was amazed in my yoga practice last night how much more focused I was and able to literally just be doing yoga vs. planning out my evening or daydreaming about tomorrow during class.

Breath is life. Breath is healing. Breath is a natural medicine. It’s the #1 thing to relive anxiety. We would all be absolutely lying if we said that we don’t have two minutes, much less 20 minutes a day we could give ourselves. (Seriously, the things we spend time on these days…you don’t wanna get me started…) I can’t think of a better gift we could give ourselves.

I challenge you (if you are not already) to see what happens when you give yourself two minutes a day of quiet with only you and your breath. You just might want to up it to 5 in a week. Then 10. And, who knows, maybe 20. The cool thing is, you just might start to crave it like it’s your little YOU time every single day where you get to take a mini vacation. Coolest thing EVER is you are also giving your heart, lungs, blood pressure, internal organs and STRESS a vacation as well. And, guess what happens then? You can actually concentrate, be present with others and what you are doing and slow down that exhausting chatter going on in your mind.

End ramble… Cheers to a happy and healthy weekend!
