Nature. It does a body good.

I don’t know about where you are, but here in Texas, we have seen nothing but rain for a while now and I’m gettin a little stir crazy. So, this afternoon I decided to give myself a RESET BREAK by looking at these amazing Aspens I captured in CO on Kebler Pass ☀️

The beautiful thing about nature is even just looking at a picture or especially a video (below!) can calm us ? Great for stress relief and a wonderful way to practice mindfulness!

Studies have been done where students who took a walk in nature vs ones that walked in the city before testing scored significantly better and even looking at a photo did the same trick! So, I may not be able to get outside much this weekend (although I hope I can!), but we can still take time to soak in the beauty even from the indoors ?

Happy weekend to all ?

Enjoy!

What I Learned From A Very Humbling Experience…

IASBI learned a lot this past weekend from a very humbling experience.

I had the honor of doing a few Reset Breaks at the IASB Convention in New Orleans.  This is some of the top speakers bureau agents, owners and employees in the world.  Therefore, it can be a really intimidating audience to say the least.  They’ve seen and heard it all.  From celebrities to CEO’s to authors, they have new information coming at them daily and get to hear all the top speakers in the world.

Somehow I got lost and forgot what I was doing this for in the first place.  I made it all about me. I was concerned if they would like it or not.  Had they heard of anything like this before or would what I would be doing be new and fresh for them?  I’ve got to make it fun, funny, serious, important and have them feel refreshed and re-energized at the same time.  Is it dumb that I’m opening the conference wearing a dress and heels even though we are doing some stretching exercises?  And the thoughts go on and on…

It’s no surprise to me that with all of these thoughts running through my mind that the first break I did out of three I had a moment where I froze up a bit.  I forgot all of the wonderful statistics I wanted to share and was wishing that I had slides like I normally do.  I’ve been in this industry since 2003, so I know many of the audience members.  I also know now that you can’t possibly prepare yourself enough for this audience.  No visualization or preparation cut it for me because I was ready.  But, the minute I saw certain people and owners of these top bureaus in the audience the more I froze up and forgot all the things I wanted to say.

It was truly one of the scariest moments of my life that seemed like it lasted an absolute eternity.

I ended up nervously pulling it together somehow and kept going, but it wasn’t easy.  And luckily, before my 3rd break, I had an incredible conversation with one of the other speakers.  I was reminded of why I was there in the first place and that somehow along the way I had lost the whole reason of why I’m so passionate about this work in the first place.

I had made it all about me vs. all about them and what they could take from it.  It’s why I’m in the business is to help people live their lives to their fullest potential and taking care of ourselves is in line with one of the big things I like to be teaching.  Here I was having that opportunity to some of the most influential people out there and I lost track of why I was there because I let my nerves get the best of me.

The good news is I was able to switch to that mentality before my last break and even better news is now I’m pretty sure I could speak in front of the President of the United States and all of the top level CEO’s in the world and it would seem like a piece of cake.  At least I’m well prepared for anything that comes along in the future 😉

Have you been humbled lately and if so, what did you learn from it?  Or do you maybe need to be a bit more humble around a certain area and perhaps even ask someone for help?

Have You Ever Gone On A Secret Mission At Your Office?

Have you ever gone on a secret mission at your office?

Do You Practice What You Preach?

TESSA-DailyResetBreak-logo

Do you practice what you preach?

Recently I got very serious when I asked myself this question.  You see, I’ve been in the speaking and training industry for the past 12 years and over that span I’ve seen a lot of people that are preaching things all day long that aren’t necessarily walking the talk.

I don’t mean everyone by any means, but I have seen a common thread of it in my time.  That being said, I took a good hard look at myself in the past few months and have asked myself that very question.  Do I practice what I preach?  And honestly, the answer was no.

Then I decided to make some changes.  I think sometimes we teach the things we need the most.  As a life coach and yoga instructor I often find myself telling clients exactly what I need to hear and I take it as a great reminder to continue doing the things that I know when I do them I achieve great results.

So, when I created Daily Reset Break, I realized that I need it possibly more than anyone else. Therefore, my New Year’s Resolution was to do all of my Daily Reset Break videos.  And, I am excited to say that I have!  I can’t say that I have done them on a daily basis and have to be honest and share that some days I’ve had to catch up on a few, but I am doing them and that’s all that matters to me right now.

And you know what!?!?!?!?  I had a fun moment today when I realized that they are working 🙂 But, truly that not only am I participating through the videos, but the ultimate goal of me wanting these videos to have people think about taking breaks at other times throughout the day really work.  I was in the car and sitting a lot today and found myself outside the car today when I had a chance jumping around in place a little and stretching.

Sitting all day truly is killing us and our bodies and I was reminded of this while teaching yoga this week for a corporate meeting when some of the participants were saying how much they needed yoga and stretching after sitting all day.  They were exhausted and their bodies were stiff and achy.

What do you do to reset when you need a break?  Need some help?  www.dailyresetbreak.com

What do you preach?  Do you practice what you preach?  Do you want to practice what you preach or do you possibly want to start preaching a new message?  If you like it, what can you do more of to start practicing what you preach?

Have You Heard That Sitting Is The New Smoking!?!?

sitting-is-the-new-smoking

Have you heard that sitting is the new smoking?

Perhaps I’ve been sitting under a rock lately because I just heard about this earlier in the week.  I can’t believe that sitting at our desks all day working is compared to being as bad for us, if not worse, as smoking.

I had already heard of articles being written saying things such as “we are dying at our desks” but this put it into even more of a perspective for me.

How many of you sit at a desk all day?  And do you actually take time to get up and walk around?  Perhaps you have a stand up desk available that you use sometimes?

I’m excited to be doing an event next week with a group where not only will I be able to do a “Reset Break” to help break up their two day meeting and re-energize them so they can retain all they need to, but I will get to teach them tools and techniques to take back to the office to help get them moving and stretching at their desks.

More info on the “reset breaks” can be found here on the top link on this page:

What is something you could do next week to start bringing more movement into your day?  Would it be possible to take a walk when you are on a conference call?  Stand at your desk when talking on the phone?  Can you walk to lunch?  Maybe take a walk around in the halls when you are coming up with creative ideas?

Here are three great stretches you can do at your desk to get the blood flowing that are great for your circulation, along with other great benefits.

1)  Stand and stretch your arms up over your head.  Interlace your hands and spin your palms towards the sky.  Relax your shoulders down your back and take a big inhale.  On the exhale, stretch your arms over to the right.  Hold a few deep breaths in and out through your nose, come back to center and repeat on the left.  This improves circulation and can help refresh your body and mind.

2)  Chair twists – Sit in a chair, preferably without arms.  Swing your knees together over to the right side with your feet on the floor, (ankles stacked beneath your knees) and twist to the right by grabbing on to the back of the chair (or if the chair has arms, face your knees forward and when you twist, grab the arm of the chair).  Take a few deep breaths in and out through your nose and go a little deeper on each exhale.  This can help release toxins and relieve fatigue and depression.

3)  Stand with your feet hips width distance apart and bend forward with your arms towards the ground in a forward fold.  Try to release your head and let it relax and hang heavy.  Let your arms hang towards the floor or you can grab opposite elbows with your hands.  Forward folds help ease irritability and anxiety.

Here’s hoping you can find ways to incorporate more movement into your work day as I’d hate for any of us to end up dying at our desks 😉

Until next time…just say NO to sitting all day!!!

Going To The Chapel, And They Got Married…

photo-2

Congratulations to Ryan and Lindsay!   I had a great time last weekend in Ohio getting to teach yoga the morning of their wedding.

It was a great way to have the groom get into a relaxed state of mind for the fun-filled day ahead of him and he really enjoyed it!

TRIESSENCE is now offering “Reset Breaks” that consist of breathing, stretching and/or yoga breaks at corporate meetings and other events.

More information can be found on the following link:

https://findyourtriessence.com/physical/

“Reset Breaks” are a great way to break up the monotony of meetings and help the attendees be able to retain all of the information as well as have everyone be more creative and productive.

I had the privilege of doing a “reset break” for the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs recently where I got to help the people that take care of so many others as occupational therapists and physical therapists learn how to take care of themselves, while they are doing such amazing work in the world.  It was a true honor to do some stretching and breathing exercises with them outdoors in a beautiful setting in Dallas.

I would love to come do a break at your next meeting or event or even at your wedding to help get your prepared for your BIG DAY 🙂 Hope to hear from you soon!
